Iran-backed Houthis send military reinforcements to Yemen's Hodeidah

The Iran-backed Houthis have mobilized a human force, supported by dozens of vehicles and machinery, and pushed them in the past hours towards the city of Hodeidah west of Yemen. Security sources told Khabar Agency.

According to sources, the Houthis deployed their human and military forces in various areas in Hodeidah, in anticipation of any sudden attack on the city and its ports, which the Stockholm Agreement failed to complete the liberation of in late 2018.

In 2018, the joint Yemeni forces engaged in fierce battles against the Houthi militia in the province of Hodeidah. As a result, they advanced deep into the city center of the province and approached its port, but international and UN pressures thwarted this with claims of humanitarian concerns.

On December 13, 2018, the internationally recognized Yemeni government signed an agreement with the Iran-backed Houthis, under the auspices of the United Nations in the Swedish city of Stockholm. The agreement was based on three main points: an agreement regarding the city of Hodeidah and its ports, an executive mechanism to activate the agreement on prisoner exchange, and a declaration of understandings regarding Taiz.

Since then, the Houthis have not implemented any of the agreements signed, but rather escalated its military operations and hostile attacks against populated areas and civilian properties in the province.
